Moravian Theatre Olomouc /Janáček Brno festival
Jenufa
A timeless and chilling tale from the Moravian countryside exploring jealousy, forgiveness, and hope will be brought to life by the ensemble of the Moravian Theatre Olomouc. This production is a co-production with the National Theatre Brno. Led by director Veronika Kos Loulová, an all-female creative team will present Jenůfa in its original 1904 version.
This year marks the 120th anniversary of the opera's world premiere. This new staging offers a contemporary perspective on the world-renowned operatic drama: the creators intertwine Jenůfa's harrowing fate with authentic testimonies from women for whom, for various reasons, the birth of a child was not initially a joyful occasion.
The production is staged in co-production with the National Theatre Brno as part of the Janáček Brno festival, and in collaboration with the "Úsměv mámy" (Mom’s Smile) organization.
Featuring the orchestra and choir of the Moravian Theatre Olomouc.
Running time: approx. 2 hours 20 minutes (1 intermission)
Premiere: November 15, 2024
Final performance: April 14, 2026
