Cavalleria rusticana (Rustic Chivalry) is a tale of love and infidelity that ends in a tragic death. The dramatic plot is underscored by captivating music that intensifies every mood and emotion. In contrast, Pagliacci (Clowns) is thematically more multi-layered. One of the themes that ultimately became key for the production team is the life of artists and their position in society. At the same time, the motif of a "play within a play" is fundamental to Pagliacci. Can we tell what is rehearsed and what arises through improvisation? What is theatre and what is reality? What is intentional and what is spiraling out of control?
